The start of a new school year brings a lot of excitement, challenges and opportunities. For students, that might include figuring out where to get the best photos to show off your school pride and up your Instagram game.
We’ve got you covered with this list of the most picture-perfect spots at Indiana State University. Take a stroll around campus and Terre Haute, get some good shots and tag @indianastateuniversity so we can share your adventures.
For current students, it may be difficult to imagine Indiana State without the fountain and the traditions it has created. But the water feature was installed in the early 1990s in an effort to help beautify the campus and make it more pedestrian friendly.
This wall is located on the west end of the John W. Moore Welcome Center. It was installed last fall, and ever since, it’s been a favorite way for students and alumni to show they’re true Blue.
Normal Hall (Inside and Out!)
Originally built as the library in 1909, Normal Hall hails from Indiana State’s Normal School era. Students seem to love capturing photos of both outside the building and the interior, which features its original grand staircase and a masterfully restored stained-glass dome highlighting educators and philosophers.
‘A Chorus of Trumpets’
This 10-by-nine-foot sculpture was installed to complement the indoor venue outside Tirey Hall, the former Student Union Building. The stainless steel and aluminum artwork features translucent tinted urethane elements that evoke the shape of trumpet bells — hence the name of the work, “A Chorus of Trumpets.”
Indiana State University Signs
Of the Indiana State University signs located throughout and around campus, the one located on the corner of Sixth and Cherry streets is a prime spot for graduation pictures.
The quad is a park-like area located at the center of campus. It is the front lawn of the president’s residence, Condit House, and is a favorite hangout for students — and their Instagram posts.
Human Health and Services Building
Construction of the Health and Human Services Building’s first phase of a $64 million expansion and renovation project wrapped up this spring. State’s largest state-funded construction project is designed to bring the outdoors inside with glass, natural light and a 2,500-square-foot, open-air wellness garden.
Built-in 1906 by the Modern Construction Company of Terre Haute, the Emeline Fairbanks Memorial Library has since been converted into classroom and studio space for the art department.

The heart of the Crossroads of America, downtown Terre Haute, is filled with plenty of photo-worthy scenes. There are alleys with amazing street art, the courthouse, Indiana Theatre and many buildings old and new.
Larry Bird Statue
A 15-foot-tall bronze statue of Larry Bird shooting a basket graces the Hulman Center grounds. Unveiled in 2013, it was designed to be taller than rival Magic Johnson’s Michigan State statue. Swish.
