State alumnus has been honored with the Fulbright Award and leaves this fall to study ethnomusicology in Thailand.
As assistant professor of music education at East Carolina University, Cynthia Wagoner specializes in instrumental music instruction and researches music teacher identity, music integration and pedagogical theories in music education, including issues of social justice.

Patommavat “Note” Thammachard’s experiences at State has helped him achieve his professional goals as a guitar instructor in Bangkok.
Zachary McCloud of Terre Haute “is among the strongest students I have worked with as the present musicologist at Indiana State,” said Terry Dean. “Zach is also an outstanding musician, having performed as part of the ISU Wind Orchestra since his freshman year, a feat that is unusual for first-year saxophone students. Zach is an outstanding student leader, having filled leadership roles in a number of important School of Music organizations and ensembles.”
Derek Meeker, a second-year graduate student from Cayuga, Ind., is the primary music teacher at the Community School of the Arts and supervises some of its most popular programs. Meeker improves “the quality of my work life,” said Petra Nyendick, director.
Jason Miles, ’73, has had a successful career in the music industry by working hard and being unique. Now, he encourages aspiring musicians to do the same.
