What is your idea of perfect happiness?
My idea of perfect happiness is hopefully the same as any. I hope for a job that allows me to live comfortably (which as a teacher is a hard thing to come by) and friends and family to keep me sane as I go through my journey. Isn’t that what anyone would want?
What is your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is to let the people I care about down. I go out of my way to help the people I care about, and I hate to know I let someone down. That, or the ocean. I just can’t handle it when the water contains things that could eat me.
What trait do you like least about yourself?
The trait that I enjoy least about myself has to be my sense of perfection. Whatever I do in my life, I am hardly ever satisfied with my work. I think that just comes with the territory of being a musician, but I never seem to find myself happy with the work that I have put out, especially when it comes to performing.
Which historical figure do you most identify with?
I’d definitely have to say I feel like I align myself a lot with Abraham Lincoln. For the time he was in, his ideals were very progressive, and he always displayed a good sense of right and wrong, and that propelled him to make decisions for the greater good. I just hope I don’t end up like him. That would be bad.
Who is someone you’ve met at Indiana State you’ll remember the rest of your life?
I’ve met a lot of people as I went through Indiana State University, but no one was more influential then the friend I met my freshman year of college. No matter what, that person was there for me, and they helped me get through a lot. Without that person, I don’t think I would be where I am today. They really helped to shape me into the person I am.
Which talent would you most like to have?
The talent I wish I could have is the ability to do jazz improvisation with the skill of some of the old jazzers that I listen to. My dream is to be able to do jazz improvisation like Charlie Parker, because that man knew his way around a saxophone and played some of the craziest solos I have ever heard.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I don’t think I am old enough to have a greatest achievement. There is so much out there and so much potential for myself, that I really can’t place a finger on one spectacular thing that I have done. I mean, I guess I could say my greatest achievement right now is cooking dinner for myself every night rather than ordering pizza.
If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
If I were to come back as anything, I would love to come back as some type of bird of prey. Not only are they dangerous, but some of those birds are just amazing creatures, and having the ability and freedom of flight would be pretty awesome.
What do people notice first about you?
I think one of the things that people notice first about me is my charisma. I am not afraid to jump into a situation and start talking away. In fact, I am one of those people that instead of running from awkward situations, I gladly embrace them.
What does BLUE mean to you?
BLUE to me means finding a place where you belong. It’s finding that one thing in life that you know will make you happy and take you wherever you go. BLUE to me means gaining the knowledge to make life easy and giving you the ability of discovery and exploration that everyone dreams of having.
